The LAFRAMBOISE GROUP is seeking a Health and Safety Officer with Industrial project experience.  This is a full-time position based out of Laframboise Group’s corporate office located in Long Sault (Cornwall) Ontario.

Description of Position: Responsible for monitoring, managing, prioritizing, and ensuring the Safety of our team while mitigating and addressing hazards in a safe and efficient manner on LAFRAMBOISE GROUP projects.  Be an advocate/leader for safety and accident prevention!

  • Promote and support LAFRAMBOISE GROUP’s commitment to a safe and healthy work environment by communicating safety expectations and leading by example.
  • Monitor and support safe daily field operations, responding promptly to project safety concerns, changing site conditions, and operational requirements.
  • Provide coaching and training to workers, subcontractors, and visitors on company safety policies, procedures, hazard recognition, and safe work practices, including orientations, refresher training, and safety stand-downs.
  • Lead and facilitate daily toolbox talks, weekly safety meetings, and other safety communications.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Safe Work Plans, Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs), permits, and other project-specific safety documentation.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Safe Work Practices, Safe Job Procedures and project-specific safety programs.
  • Conduct regular documented site inspections, audits, observations, and compliance reviews to identify hazards, unsafe acts, and regulatory deficiencies.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, legislative requirements, and site rules, and participate in progressive disciplinary processes when required.
  • Respond to workplace incidents, emergencies, and injuries by providing immediate on-site support, coordinating response efforts, and ensuring proper reporting procedures are followed.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, property damage events, and near misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain accurate and organized safety records, including inspection reports, training records, certifications, incident reports, meeting minutes, and daily activity logs.
  • Ensure all site safety administrative requirements are current and compliant, including worker certifications, orientations, safety board postings, signage and permits.
  • Coordinate PPE issuance, inspections, inventory, and replenishment.
  • Maintain professional working relationships and communicate effectively with workers, supervisors, clients, subcontractors, regulatory agencies, and site visitors.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends, recommending improvements, and assisting in the evaluation of safety program effectiveness.
  • Travel to project sites and provide support as operationally required.
  • Perform additional health and safety responsibilities and other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of construction health and safety experience in Ontario.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Ministry of Labour requirements, CSA standards, and relevant provincial and federal regulations.
  • Experience working in industrial and/or construction environments with the ability to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Strong understanding of safe work practices, hazard assessments, incident prevention, and emergency response procedures.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities with a proactive approach to promoting a positive safety culture and worker accountability.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and digital safety management systems.
  • Valid Standard First Aid, CPR +AED certification and naloxone training required.
  • Valid Working at Heights certification required.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to project sites as required.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation preferred.
  • Additional certifications in occupational health and safety, industrial safety, construction safety, or related training programs are considered an asset.
